At the beginning of 1935, it was decided to organize a physical culture society, whose task was to unite professional athletes. On April 19, 1935, the All-Union Voluntary Sports Society Spartak was officially established. The main task of the Spartacists, along with the training of athletes, was to attract artel workers, their family members, and students to an active lifestyle.
On July 22, 1937, the Central Executive Committee of the USSR awarded the Spartak society the Order of Lenin for outstanding achievements in the development of mass physical culture and sports.
Over 700 athletes of the Red and White Society became winners and prize-winners of the Olympic Games, World and European Championships and other major international competitions. The high sporting achievements of Spartak athletes and coaches were awarded with state awards.
